Filevine doesn't publish its prices. Its pricing page says every package is "custom built for your team's needs," and its product terms confirm billing per user per month. Third-party trackers report $49 to $87 per user per month for the base licence. Implementation partners publish launch plans from $1,750 to $32,500. AI in the base plan is metered at three chats per user per month, and the medical chronology tool sits in the top AI tier.

We build software for personal injury firms and maintain an open-source Filevine connector for Claude, so Filevine's pricing comes up on almost every PI call we take. It's the same exercise we ran for MyCase, Clio and Lawmatics, with one difference: Filevine doesn't print a price. So this page works from what Filevine does publish, its product terms, and labels everything else.
What does Filevine cost per user?
Filevine's FAQ answers the question this way: "Each organization is unique and our team will work closely with you to tailor a cost-effective and scalable plan for your organization." The product specifications describe the platform as "billed on a per-user-per-month basis," with metered AI included.
The numbers firms quote to each other come from third parties. ITQlick lists a starting price of $49 per user per month and notes that other sources report $87. Neither figure comes from Filevine. We use the pair as a low and high case below, and you should replace both with your own quote the moment you have one.
What's metered or gated behind add-ons?
Filevine's product specifications are more useful than the pricing page, because they list what each product includes and how it's billed. The pieces a PI firm runs into first:
| Item |
How Filevine bills or limits it |
Why a PI firm cares |
| AI in the base plan |
Metered Three chats per user per month, then access pauses until the next period, unless the sales order says otherwise. |
Enough to try it. Not enough to run intake or records review on it. |
| LOIS Assistant, Advanced, Expert |
Separate packages Upgrade tiers for AI. Advanced adds LOIS for Word, Meetings, all-case search and the report builder. |
The price of each tier isn't public. |
| MedChron chronologies |
LOIS Expert only The chronologies row is ticked in one column of Filevine's LOIS table. |
The feature PI firms ask about most is in the top tier. |
| LOIS Legal Research |
Per user per month Not in any base subscription or LOIS package unless the sales order says so. |
A second per-seat line for research. |
| Automations |
Billed by task Filevine Automation runs on Workato, and every action a recipe performs counts as a task. |
Cost grows with case volume, which is the opposite of what automation is for. |
| Lead Docket |
Add-ons $20 a month per text line number, and automations past 500 actions per user per month at $100 per 500. |
Intake is where PI firms spend on volume. |
| Reporting and raw data |
Packages Periscope packages come with set numbers of data sets and licences. DataBridge streams your data to Snowflake, and you need your own Snowflake account. |
Reading your own data in your own tools costs extra. We wrote about custom Filevine reporting separately. |
What does implementation cost?
Filevine sends onboarding to "Certified Implementation Partners." One of them, Vineskills, publishes its plans, which makes it the best public reference we found. When we checked, its Sprint plans for teams of 1 to 20 listed at $2,500, $5,000 and $7,500, on sale at $1,750, $3,750 and $6,250. Its larger Launch plans list at $12,500, $20,000 and $32,500 over four to six months, with data and document migration built in. Reporting setup, Workato and LOIS automations each list at $2,500, and document assembly starts at $1,250.

The 3-year math for a 15-person PI firm
Take a plaintiff firm with 15 Filevine users: attorneys, case managers, intake and a records paralegal. Run the base licence at both ends of the reported range, add a mid-size implementation with migration, and stop there. Everything after that line is quoted per firm, so we list it instead of guessing.

Not included: LOIS Advanced or Expert, LOIS Legal Research, Periscope packages, Workato tasks, Lead Docket, renewal increases. Filevine quotes each of these per firm.
The unknown lines are the expensive ones for a PI firm. If you want MedChron, you're buying LOIS Expert for the people who use it. If intake runs on Lead Docket with texting and automations, the per-number and per-action charges grow with your marketing spend. Ask your rep to price every line in the caption above before you sign, and ask what happens to each one at renewal.

What happens to your data if you leave?
This is the clause to read before you sign, because it decides how hard leaving is later. Filevine's security addendum says Filevine "shall not be obligated to store any Data for more than thirty (30) days following the expiration or termination." Within 20 days of termination, you tell Filevine in writing whether to destroy the data or return it "in a mutually agreed-upon format," and "Subscriber shall be solely responsible for all costs associated with such return."
Two practical consequences. First, run your export before you give notice, not after. Second, the data comes back, but the setup doesn't: your custom sections, task chains, document templates and automations were built inside Filevine and have no format to come back in. Our contract-clause comparison puts Filevine's exit terms next to five other practice management systems.
Three ways out, and when each one makes sense
1
Keep Filevine, bring your own AI
Connect Claude to Filevine through an MCP connector, so attorneys ask questions about their cases without buying a higher LOIS tier for everyone. Ours is open source. Right when Filevine itself works and the AI bill is the problem.
2
Keep Filevine, own the reporting
Pull your data into a database you control and build the reports partners actually read. Right when the complaint is "we can't see our own numbers." More in Filevine custom reporting.
3
Replace it with a system you own
A case management system built for your firm, in accounts your firm controls. Right when per-seat cost, metered AI and lock-in add up past what a build costs. Compared in detail in custom PI case management vs Filevine.
What replacing Filevine on Microsoft 365 looks like
On 2 October 2026 we read 650 Upwork job posts for a demand study. One of them, from a personal injury firm on the US East Coast, asked for exactly the third path: move off Filevine and onto a system the firm owns, built on Microsoft 365 and SharePoint, which the firm already pays for. It's a request we expect to see more of, so here's how we'd scope it.
Phase 1
Export and map
Pull every project, contact, note, deadline and document out of Filevine while the subscription is live. Map Filevine's sections to a matter model the firm agrees on.
Phase 2
Matter system on M365
Documents in a SharePoint library per matter, with the permissions the firm already manages in Microsoft 365. Matter data, deadlines and medical specials in a database the firm owns, behind its own sign-in.
Phase 3
PI workflows on top
Intake, treatment tracking, records requests, medical chronologies and the demand package, with an attorney reviewing every draft before it leaves.
The ownership details are what make it worth doing: the code and the cloud accounts are in the firm's name, the IP is assigned to the firm, and the documentation is good enough that another developer could take it over. That's the scope of our personal injury case management software work.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Filevine cost per user?
Filevine doesn't publish a price. Its pricing page says every package is custom built and quoted by sales, and its product terms say the platform is billed per user per month. Third-party trackers such as ITQlick report $49 to $87 per user per month for the base licence. Filevine doesn't confirm those figures, so use them only as a range to check your own quote against.
Is Filevine's AI included in the base price?
Partly. Filevine's product specifications say the base subscription includes metered access to select AI features, with a threshold of three chats per user per month unless the sales order says otherwise. More AI comes through the LOIS Assistant, Advanced and Expert packages. LOIS Legal Research is billed per user per month on top, and MedChron chronologies are only in LOIS Expert.
How much does Filevine implementation cost?
Filevine sends onboarding to certified implementation partners. One partner, Vineskills, publishes its launch plans: Sprint plans for 1 to 20 user teams list at $2,500, $5,000 and $7,500 (on sale at $1,750, $3,750 and $6,250 when we checked), and larger Launch plans at $12,500, $20,000 and $32,500 over four to six months. Reporting setup, automations and document assembly are extra.
What happens to my data if I leave Filevine?
Filevine's security addendum says it isn't obliged to store your data for more than 30 days after the agreement ends. Within 20 days of termination you tell Filevine in writing whether to destroy the data or return it in a mutually agreed format, and you pay the cost of the return. Plan the export before you give notice.
What are the alternatives to Filevine?
Other per-seat systems include Clio, MyCase, SmartAdvocate, Litify and Neos. A firm can also keep Filevine and put its own AI and reporting on top, or replace it with a system it owns, for example on Microsoft 365 and SharePoint with a database and workflow layer built for personal injury. Which one is cheaper depends on headcount, case volume and how much of your workflow lives in custom Filevine configuration.
