Things you can go and check yourself

[ BACKGROUND ]

Nikola works on the back end, specifically on the problem of getting systems that were never designed to talk to each other to exchange data reliably. API design, service boundaries, and the integration work in between.

He built the MyCase MCP connector, published on npm, which gives an AI assistant scoped access to a law firm's case management data. Same category of problem as the rest of his work: two systems, one of them not built with this in mind, and a requirement that nothing is lost or duplicated in the middle.

The rest of his time goes to third-party integrations, payment flows, and data migrations. That is the part of a build where failures are quiet. A broken page is obvious within a day. A migration that silently drops two per cent of records, or a payment webhook that fires twice under load, can run for weeks before anyone notices, and by then it has cost a client real money. Most of the engineering there is in the checks, not the happy path.
